Wifi has been a bit sketchy, so sorry for the delay in letting people know that our maiden voyage was actually a success and we did make the short hop between the Virgin Islands.
We woke excited and ready to go Monday morning! Joel set off to customs in a taxi to check us out, and the girls and I went to have pancakes for breakfast - a fair trade surely? After a few more tweaks here and there on the boat; getting the reefing lines on, filling the water tank and provisioning for the day, we were set.
We set off just before lunch on one of the more perfect days that we've had. The girls were nervous and excited to be heading out into the ocean.
The sail over went smoothly, a few gusts every now and then. But as you can see from the picture, the girls feel asleep after 10 minutes, happily being rocked to sleep by the gentle swell.
I, on the other hand experienced the first signs of seasickness, and am not looking forward to that feeling again, even though I know it will occur until I'm past those initial days (I hope). Thankfully tied up at the marina there is only an occasional rocking from boats passing by. But once the cooking, cleaning, concentrating on tasks begins whilst underway, I am not sure how things will go...perhaps I will need to learn the ropes quickly so that I can take on the role of captain up in the breeze and Joel can be the cabin boy!
