Where to start? We had a almost a week staying at Shelter Bay Marina Hotel, which was a bit of a luxury not being on the boat. Then again, it was weird having to live out of a suitcase when all our stuff was just at the end of the dock. There are so many pictures of this next chapter on Panama that I will try to just describe each picture in sequencial order, rather than write a whole bunch. One thing to mention was the fact we got to spend the week at Shelter Bay with Isabelle and Gracie's grandparents; Mar and Par. Joel's parents made the epic journey over to join us for the transiting of the canal and were much favoured guests by our little sailors for the week. We then had Grant, an old Melbourne and Cayman friend join at the eleventh hour on Friday night. With 4 line handlers required for the transit, we then only had to get one professional in for the night. Please hover over each of the photos below for more description of our transit. |
So Day one on the Canal was action packed and quite fun as we experienced the Canal first hand. Everyone was alert and excited. Since the sun was beginning to set as we finally entered the first lock, it actually made the whole experience even more enjoyable as there was no heat to worry about. The highly anticipated first lock was really something, as we took in the enormity of the canal. Pleased to have the first section now completed, we tucked straight into dinner once we were secured for the night, and then everyone found a place to sleep until morning.
