We left Gorda sound at 3am to try ad avoid a compete overnight sail on the 84 mile leg to Saba.
Leaving the sound in the dark was eerie as the tall mast lights lit the sky like skyscrapers. We rounded Necker Island and Joel put up the sails and I returned to bed.
Daybreak and the news that we had the wind on our nose for the entire trip was not pleasant. We would need to tack several times and add hours to our trip. This plus the constant pounding of waves meant I had officially christened the boat by around 9! Let's just say not too much food was consumed for the day. The girls slept and were generally pretty good lounging about in the rolly seas. Joel worked hard as skipper and hostess for the day.
So to shorten the story, 24 hrs later at 2:30am we made it to Saba. With no moorings balls that we could see to pick up that left Joel to motor back and forth until daylight. By 6am he was exhausted and slept til 9am and we spent the rest of the day catching up on rest, food and checking into Saba.
See other post for Saba activities.
A long slog but we were glad we did it - un! One under our belt.
