We had another lay day on Sunday, shifting anchorages to Bryan’s Beach to escape some wind. Overall a relaxing day with a few walks on the beach and a beautiful sunset to finish if off! Visiting the Freycinet area is always a special time.
Today, we pulled up anchor at 7am and didn’t set it down again til just after 6pm! It was a long day on the water, sailing in some pretty sloppy water to begin. The swell was still from the north but the wind from the south, and so the first hour or so was, as someone on the radio said, like porridge…lumpy. Little Ella felt those lumps once again today, poor girl, but perked up afterwards thank goodness.
As with most plans, things change and our expected time in Wineglass Bay didn’t happen due to the northerly on Sunday, so we started making our way up the east coast today getting as far as Binalong Bay. In total we did 75 miles which is a huge day for us, and we are all tired. Well Joel is especially tired as he didn’t have a nap during the day like the rest of us managed to do at some point.
Today we were treated to quite an abundance of wildlife. Dolphins came to play several times, we saw a number of seals, tails in the air sunbathing, and a huge number of birds. The shearwaters in these waters are incredible. There are everywhere and constantly moving. It is fascinating to consider the small stretch of sea we covered today, and how many hundreds or thousands of birds we saw. It boggles the mind to consider how many there must be in the world!
Tonight, like I mentioned, we got as far as Binalong Bay. We went to anchor, but the rolly swell looked to be too much for us after 11 hours, and so we back tracked to the next bay, Skeleton Bay, where the roll is present but less severe. After a delicious meal, with vegetables ( after eating dry food all day this was heavenly) the girls watched a movie and now it’s bed time. Tomorrow is another 45 mile stretch. Hopefully the wind and the waves behave themselves and we can all relax.
